On December 15, 2023, our team in Ukraine, along with New York University, published a secondary descriptive analysis in Sage Journals. This analysis sought to understand Gender-Based Violence (GBV), specifically Domestic Violence (DV), among older women in Ukraine’s conflict setting. Among the findings, over 60% of women aged 60 or over experienced DV, and local women were more likely to experience DV versus displaced women.
“This research emphasizes the urgent need for a deeper understanding of DV among older women in conflict-affected areas, reinforcing the call to action for prioritizing protection and prevention strategies against GBV in this marginalized group. Our findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on GBV in humanitarian settings and underline the importance of comprehensive support systems to address the specific vulnerabilities faced by older women,” explains Halyna Skipalska, Ukraine Country Director.
