Ukraine Program Expands to Include Survivors of Conflict

Ukraine Program Expands to Include Survivors of Conflict

HealthRight’s initiative addressing gender-based violence in Ukraine has thus far focused on women and girls who are HIV-positive or street-involved. Now, this work has expanded in response to the country-wide epidemic of forced migration driven by the violent conflict in Ukraine’s eastern regions. With support from the European Commission, and a newly awarded grant from the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture, HealthRight will engage survivors of intimate partner violence, as well as military and non-military survivors of torture related to the eastern conflict, in case management, psychological and psychosocial care, and referral for medical assistance. Staff of the Military Hospital in Kyiv, government social services, and community organizations in ten regions will be trained to identify and support survivors of violence, and connect with their colleagues in referral networks enabling the provision of comprehensive care.
