International Day of the Girl Child is observed annually on October 11 to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. On this day, we acknowledge the inequality in opportunities and rights for young girls and raise awareness and importance to their voices.

Recently, our Chief Program Officer Dr. Theresa Castillo spoke with Goodera for the International Day of Girl Child on how HealthRight is advocating for issues face by young girls.

“When it comes to discrimination, it is indeed multifaceted. It comes in the form of economics, education, and health care. We need to make sure that young women (adolescents) are getting the quality health care and education to keep up with this world” says Dr. Castillo. “Gender equality and empowerment principles are fundamental to our programming. Whenever we design a project, we engage communities, because we’re able to bring our resources to the table and discuss together what is the best way forward.”
