Title: MHP Site Supervisor

Location: Africa: sub-Sahara, Kenya, Uganda

Reports to: Director, Global Mental Health

Status and Time: Part-Time, Temporary – 20 hours per month – Up to 6 Months with possible extension

Start Date: Immediate

 

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

HealthRight International is a global health organization that expands equitable access to quality health systems for marginalized communities, with a particular focus on those affected by HIV, violence, unmet mental health needs, and inadequate reproductive, maternal, newborn, child & adolescent (RMNCAH) health services.  Employing a human rights-based approach, HealthRight works closely with community-based partners to build local capacity and create sustainable programs that have lasting impact. Since its founding in 1990, HealthRight has worked in over 30 countries, with current projects in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the United States. HealthRight is affiliated with the NYU School of Global Public Health and collaborates on global health programming, research, curricula, and field opportunities.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Working closely with PCAP Program Director, the MHPSS Officer will ensure the continued quality of clinical work in MHPSS training, supervision and service delivery, support in the development of proposals and communication materials, and contribute in knowledge management, reporting and publications.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensure continued quality of clinical work in MHPSS programs
  • Oversee the quality of clinical work by developing and implementing clinical quality standards in MHPSS.
  • Together with in-country mental health project coordinators, train and supervise the MHPSS workforce to equip them with clinical skills so that they are competent in providing quality MHPSS services.
  • Together with in-country monitoring and evaluation (MEARL) focal points and clinicians, oversee the collection, storage and analysis of the clinical data and develop the plan of actions to address the challenges experienced by MHPSS clinical staff.
  • Provide clinical support for mental health programming across the organization.
  • Support in scaling up MHPSS clinical services across the organization.
  • Conduct quarterly MHPSS meetings among country colleagues to assess the progress, challenges and develop corrective actions.
  1. Support Business Development
  • Support the Program Director for Global Mental Health in developing concept notes, project proposals and MHPSS project summaries and briefs.
  • Support in the design of research proposals.
  • Support in connecting with potential new donors and partners.
  • Attend online meetings with potential donors and partners.
  1. Grants Management & Reporting
  • Support the Program Director for Global Mental Health in managing the ongoing grants such as preparing budget revisions, contract amendments and revising the work plans.
  • Support the country team in addressing the implementation challenges.
  1. External relations- Networking and organizational visibility
  • Support in the preparation of MHPSS communication materials, presentations, project reports and publications.
  • Attend online co-ordination meetings
  • Present HealthRight’s work in national and international forums.
  • Perform any other duties that may be required to strengthen HealthRight’s MHPSS portfolio.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills: the ability to effectively liaise with colleagues in a diverse multi-cultural environment.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian aid, and international development is strongly preferred.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a global team.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, global, and fast-paced environment with time-sensitive demands.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, deadline-oriented, ability to handle projects simultaneously, and work well with others.
  • Commitment to health equity and human rights.
  • Strong record of relationship building and working closely with Ugandan Health Ministry, public and private donors, I/NGO and community stakeholders.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND             

  • Education: Master’s in Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counselling or Psychiatric Nursing
  • Experience: At least 2 years clinical work experience with conflict-affected and traumatized population
  • Leadership: minimum 3 years role in clinical supervision leadership
