Human Rights Clinic Consultant

REPORTS TO: Chief Program Officer, HealthRight International

BASED IN: New York, NY USA (remote work)

CLASSIFICATION: Temporary, Part-time (~2 months)



HealthRight International is a global health organization that expands equitable access to quality health systems for marginalized communities, with particular focus on those affected by HIV, violence, unmet mental health needs, and inadequate reproductive, maternal, newborn, child & adolescent (RMNCAH) health services. Since its founding in 1990, HealthRight has worked in over 30 countries, with current projects in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the United States.

In the US, our Human Rights Clinic (HRC) recruits, trains and deploys licensed health care professionals (e.g., physicians, psychologists, clinical social workers) to provide expert forensic evaluations, affidavits, and testimony on behalf of immigrant survivors of torture and other human rights abuses in their applications for immigration relief. The HRC project model also includes a follow-up case management component to connect survivors with needed resources in their communities.



HRC is seeking a seasoned consultant to oversee and to support its grant application response to the upcoming HHS/Office of Refugee Resettlement Survivors of Torture Program RFA. HRC fostered partnerships with several institutions and anticipates partnership with two lead organizations for the application. Anticipated consultancy start date is April 4, 2022, for up to 30 hours of work over the next 2 months.



Project Design & Planning

  • In consultation with senior management, review the RFA and outline the proposal process with established timelines, checklists, and responsible parties
  • Oversee technical design discussions with lead partners/stakeholder on the proposed project design
  • Manage overall proposal development processes in partnership with administrative


Grant Writing

  • Lead the technical grant writing for the application, as it pertains to the Human Rights Clinic
  • Coordinate with HRC former and current staff to review content approach and design
  • Ensure the timely submission of the required documents to our lead partners in coordination with the HRC and HealthRight operations team



  • Previous experience with Office of Refugee Resettlement grants desired
  • In-depth expertise working with immigrant populations and survivors of torture and abuse
  • Strong grant writing and management skills
  • Excellent partnership and communication skills
