Haley Ritsema is a Program Associate Intern supporting Dr. Peter Navario. She is completing her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology with a health and human rights specialization at New York University. Previously, she completed her undergraduate degree at Western Michigan University with degrees in biomedical sciences and nutrition & dietetics. There, she conducted microbial ecological research on the impacts of agricultural antibiotic use on prairie restoration. Her professional interests center around mental health in forcibly displaced persons as it relates to conflict and trauma. She has worked at the Greek/Turkish border on the Greek island Lesvos twice – first as a triagist for a medical clinic and second doing monitoring & evaluation for a legal organization. She has also worked with HealthRight in the past as an intern in their Human Rights Clinic and as a research assistant.
Haley first joined HealthRight in January 2021.
