HealthRight International in Ukraine signs a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on uniting efforts in HIV prevention, testing and treatment for youth and women in conflict with the law

February 7, 2017 (Kiev, Ukraine) – HealthRight International in Ukraine, ICF “Ukrainian Foundation for Public Health” and All-Ukrainian Public Center “Volunteer” signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in implementation of the three-year project “HIV Prevention, Testing and Treatment for Youth and Women in Conflict with the Law in Ukraine” supported by Elton John AIDS Foundation. During the meeting the parties together with Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Chernyshov discussed future plans for providing comprehensive social support and HIV prevention for youth in conflict with the law in the context of the State Penitentiary System reform.

Partners agreed on taking common actions towards HIV prevention and access to testing and treatment among adolescents and youth in conflict with the law, as well as prevention of risky health behaviors and recidivism among convicted minors with a particular focus women and girls. The other important focus is implementation of programs facilitating resocialization and integration of ex-convicts into society.

The Memorandum is an important step in creating a sustainable model of HIV prevention among adolescents and women in conflict with the law as part of the reform of the penitentiary system.
