The Human Rights Clinic will be holding a training for new volunteers in Long Island, NY on Saturday, November 3, 2018. We are seeking licensed physicians and mental health professionals to join our network of clinicians who provide evaluations for survivors of torture and human rights abuses. This training will focus on providing evaluations for child and adolescent survivors as well as adult survivors.
The training will include background on vulnerable migrants in the United States with an emphasis on unaccompanied migrant children (particularly those fleeing Central America); an understanding of the types of immigration relief available to children, adolescents, and adults; presentations on evaluating and documenting the psychological and physical effects of abuse; guidance on writing effective affidavits; and orientation on conducting needs assessments to refer clients to culturally appropriate community services.
Given limited space, we ask that applicants have a sincere interest in joining our volunteer network following the training.
