Peter Navario, Executive Director of HealthRight International, was invited as a guest for the latest episode of “5 Percent and Falling”– a podcast series part of of New York University’s College of Global Public Health dedicated to public health, and exploring crises as they affect our communities, families and futures by interviewing experienced public health professionals in these fields. Peter also serves as the Director of Global Health Strategy, Research Scientist and Associate Research Professor at the College of Public Health at New York University. An MPH student from NYU College of Global Health, Mehreen Arif, was awarded the Gallatin Global Fellowship in Human Rights and worked alongside HealthRight International in Kathmandu, Nepal. After taking a course abroad in Florence, Italy this last winter, Mehreen decided to focus her MPH on the health and advocacy of refugees as well as mental health. In Nepal she worked with Friends of Shanta Bhawan Clinic, a partner of HealthRight International and for two months she shadowed physicians and conducted research on Tibetan refugees, particularly to assess Depression, PTSD and availability of mental health services.
