HealthRight International and its partner Doctors to Children (DTC) will host its third annual national training conference in Russia, focusing on preventing child abuse, family violence and violence against women, and providing assistance to victims. The conference, titled “Family, Child, Society: Problems and Solutions” is being organized with the support of the Committee on Social Policy of the City of St. Petersburg.

Conference participants will include representatives of the St. Petersburg city government, leaders and staff of state social protection and health care institutions, law enforcement officials, child protection service providers, representatives of non-governmental organizations and from other regions of the Russian Federation, and attendees from other countries.

The program  will focus on prevention and assistance to victims of child abuse, family violence and violence against women. Comprehensive models of psychosocial support will be presented, including hospital-based rehabilitation of victims of child abuse, halfway houses for youth, and interagency collaboration to prevent violence against women. It  will showcase the results of several projects implemented by HealthRight and DTC in St. Petersburg in 2008-2009, with the support of the government of St. Petersburg, USAID, the European Commission, United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), and the World Childhood Foundation. Methodological publications on interagency coordination to reduce violence against women and on assisting youth through the halfway house model, which were approved by the St. Petersburg Committee on Social Policy, will also be presented.

The conference will take place at the Pulkovskaya Hotel, 1 Pobedy Sq., St. Petersburg, Moskovskaya Metro Station, at 10 AM (registration starts at 9 AM).
